Hua Hin Guide By Areas
Everything you Need to Know about Hua Hin
Today, increasing numbers are travelling the short 200km south to the fabulous beaches and tropical wonders found in Hua Hin, Cha-Am and Pranburi, overlooking the Gulf of Thailand. Although each area has its own unique character and beaches, other attractions like national parks and numerous golf courses in the region can be reached easily.
Originally a sleepy fishing village, Hua Hin awakened from its slumber in the 1920's when it was connected to Bangkok by railway line. It soon developed into a popular retreat, frequented also by the Thai Royal family. Hua Hin has seen a lot of development over recent years, but still has very much a relaxed, local flavour. Fantastic resort developments have made Cha-Am and Pranburi on the outskirts very popular too, although these areas are much quieter and offer idyllic seaside escape. In this section we take a closer look at these three areas – the perfect orientation to help you decide what’s more your cup of tea, complete with all their individual highlights, recommendations for where to stay, things to do and see, and other useful information.
Hua Hin Beach Area Guide
Staying in Hua Hin gives you the best of two worlds: the beach, and the attractions of Hua Hin, all easily accessible. With both day and night markets, numerous shops and even small shopping arcades.
Cha am Beach Area Guide
Cha-Am, a peaceful seaside retreat 160km south of Bangkok (about 20km or 20 minutes from Hua Hin), boasts Thailand’s longest beach. Popular especially with Thai weekend visitors from Bangkok, it’s quiet and very relaxed during the week.
Pranburi Beach Area Guide
Pranburi, a quiet and charming seaside town of the province of Prachuap Khirikhan, lies a mere 30km south of Hua Hin, and is an attractive leisure spot with its pristine beaches and the nearby Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park.
Khao Takiab Area Guide
Meaning ‘Chopstick Hill' in Thai, Khao Takiab is a fishing village suburb just 10 kilometres outside of Hua Hin. The Area is defined by its premier attraction the mountain that sits at the top of the road, here you can expect a sensational panorama and a bit of monkeying around – the mountain is home to quite a few monkeys.
