Pranburi Attractions

What to See in Pranburi

If you’re an avid beachgoer, enjoying the classic seaside elements of sun, sea, sand and warm, clear waters, Pranburi is not going to disappoint. Throw in a beautiful setting against the backdrop of verdant forests, a national park with mountains and an estuary, and you start getting the picture.

On route to Pranburi from Hua Hin – about a 30-km drive – you will pass several quiet bays which are good for swimming. South of Pranburi is Khao Sam Roi Yot (‘three hundred peaks’) National Park with its rugged limestone hills – part of the Tenasserim Mountains, which line the coast. These are full of ravines and caverns, some of which can be reached by the park's network of roads and trails.

Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park

Khao Sam Roi Yot’s dramatic backdrop of endless limestone peaks festooned in lush greenery has inspired its name (Khao Sam Roi Yot means ‘the mountain with three hundred peaks’). Covering the area of nearly 100sq.km. along the coast, approximately 60km south of Hua Hin, Khao Sam Roi Yot is as close as it gets to Krabi’s dream-like seascapes. Read More...

Other Attractions in Pranburi

Chinese Temple

A fantastic view from at least 20 metres up, the panorama from this Chinese temple is quite simply spectacular. Relatively modern, the temple is not the most amazing structure you will ever encounter but the view is pretty awesome and promises some great photo opportunities. Many of the local stores in Pranburi Town feature Chinese script over the shophouse door, displaying a strong Sino presence. Surrounding the temple there are some pretty mangroves.

Khao Tao

Be sure not to confuse Khao Tao (meaning mountain) with the island in the south of thailand. Koh Tao (‘koh’ meaning island). Situated 15 kilometres south of Khao Takiab, this fishing village remains largely untouched by the waves of modernity. The biggest attractions in the area are the secluded bay, Haad Sai Noi and the large Khao Tao Temple.

The temple is not something that will go unnoticed; it is difficult to ignore the huge golden Buddhas residing amid the hills, several caves and the shrine. Beside the temple is a gorgeous little fishing village where you can sit and enjoy a drink and a som tam in a local café.

Opening Hours: 06:00-21:00 (for the temple)
Address: Khao Tao

Pak Num Pran

Just 10 minute’s drive from Pranburi town, Pak Num Pran is blessed with endless miles of white sandy beach, this is the stretch of coast between Hua Hin and Chumphon. A fine family attraction, this beach has yet to make it onto the Thailand international tourist trail and is generally favoured by affluent Thais. For those who want to find a secluded beach this is, for the most, nearly always deserted and is also a great place to spot dolphins. Affectionately called the ‘Sunrise Coast’ if you are here during the early hours you can certainly see why.

Pranburi Forest Park

Pranburi forest park is a project registered under the Queen’s patronage that seeks to protect the mangroves. There are two trails you can take once there, the one being the beach route where the seashore and the pine forest are prime attractions, the other being the mangrove nature trail, which has several types of flora.

The park covers an area of 3.17 km² and is located at the mouth of the Pranburi River in the Klongkao- Klongkob National Reserve Forest. The plantlife is a combination of mixed forest and mangrove, which is incredibly beautiful and the Pranburi River runs through the park. Keep you eyes peeled for the animals that live here as you stand a good chance of seeing a porcupine, squirrel, chipmunk and even kingfishers.

Opening Hours: 24 hours
Address: Pranbuir, Prachuap Khiri Khan

Tham Kaeos

Situated 23 kilometres from Pranburi, this cave is full of stalactites and stalagmites. Oil lamps can be rented at a nearby village for exploring the cave. These fairly recent discoveries are some of the most beautiful caves In Thailand. Bear in mind that there is only one entrance which is also the exit, and once inside the caves, movement is also restricted.
