Pranburi Overview

Sun, sand, pristine beaches, the clear waters of the Gulf of Thailand, a charming local village, several eco-attractions, and a convenient location just 30km south of Hua Hin are the main reasons for Pranburi’s fast-growing popularity. It’s no longer just a sleepy coastal village, but home to several world-class resorts ranging from very affordable accommodation to super-luxurious retreats that are spread out far apart to retain privacy and exclusivity.

The main water resource of the district is the Pranburi River, with a mangrove forest (the protected Pranburu Forest Park) at the mouth of the river where it flows into the Gulf of Thailand, further boosting the area’s scenic, natural appeal. A one-kilometre stretch of beach here is fringed by pine trees and there are several mangrove nature trails for adventurous visitors to explore. Beaches are very popular with visitors, as they are still less crowded than those of nearby Hua Hin. The main beach is fronted by a small road that extends south from the estuary of the Pranburi River to Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park.

This coastal national park is undoubtedly Pranburi’s star attraction, and covers an area of 98 square kilometers. Limestone mountains, caves, mangrove swamps, beautiful beaches and various kinds of local and migrating birds make up the park’s main appeal. With its many ridges, Khao Sam Roi Yot (which means ‘the mountain of 300 peaks’) stands as a landmark for seamen. Hat Sam Phraya, located 3.5km north of the park office, is a beautiful beach lined with pine trees. Tham Kaeo and Tham Sai are caves with impressive stalactites and stalagmites. Another well-known cave is Tham Phraya Nakhon, which has a big hole through which a shaft of light reaches and permits the growth of various kinds of plants. Khao Daeng is a view point from where spectacular views can be enjoyed, and Ban Khao Daeng a canal-side village, which is also the starting point for a one-hour boat trip to watch wild birds.

Visitors who enjoy Pranburi are typically those who appreciate a close-to-nature experience, in surroundings that are authentic and haven’t lost its charm due to commercial development. With natural attractions galore, the hospitality of the friendly local fishing community, and quality resorts that can now be found here, Pranburi’s fan club is growing fast…
